The RJFA Cheerleading Program was founded in 1964. The program is open to all girls in grades 3-8. There are no tryouts or other competitive issues that may cause us to lose any of our all-inclusive policy. The program is designed to be flexible enough to accommodate those who participate in other sports or activities. Our Cheerleading Program is truly the place to be this fall for any one interested in having fun and learning what it means to be a cheerleader for our football teams.
The season kicks off with a summer clinic that has been conducted by Cheer Ltd. Cheer Ltd. is a professional instructional cheerleading organization dedicated to teaching cheerleading skills and more important, "team-building". The summer clinic is not mandatory, although you would hate to miss it :-)
Incorporating community service events into the RJFA Cheerleading program as become an important part of the program for our members. Past community service events included participation in the CancerCare walk in Van Neste Park in mid October, 2006. Our cheerleaders volunteered by "cheering on" the participants for the CancerCare walk helping to d raise money and distribute water.
In additon to CancerCare, RJFA Cheerleaders particiated in "Coins for Cure" benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Each squad raised as much money as they could for the JDRF. Community Service is a wonderful way for the girls to learn the true meaning of being involved and trying to make a positive difference in the Village of Ridgewood. The girls in the program learned the value of people helping people. The RJFA Cheerleading Program supplies each cheerleader with a uniform sweater/jacket, skirt, vest and pom pons. Each cheerleader must supply their own bodysuits, briefs, socks and sneakers. Bernard’s/Village Sports, located at 25 Oak Street, works with our program to offer a selection of optional accessories. All accessories can be personalized.
Each RJFA football team has its own dedicated cheerleading squad. The Missiles (3rd and 4th grade), Jets (5th and 6th grade) and Rockets (7th and 8th grade) cheerleaders are an integral part of all RJFA home and away games. When the game is under the lights on Friday or played on Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon, the Ridgewood fans are always receptive to our cheerleader squad.
Our home games are played at Veteran's Field in Ridgewood. We rely on parent car pools to provide transportation to away games. The RJFA Schedule contains details of when and where each team will play its games. The schedule will be handed out by your team parent coordinator. Past seasons have welcomed over 100 girls from Ridgewood’s elementary and middle schools participate in a fun filled and exciting season. The program has a dedicated Board of Trustees that meets monthly to discuss current events and issues relative to the program.
The RJFA Cheerleading Program has recruited qualified, dedicated cheerleading coaches committed to this program. These coaches are a minimum of high school age and come to us with references. They are extremely responsible, goal setting, role models for the cheerleaders of this program
The RJFA is actively seeking parent volunteers to serve as parent coordinators for each squad. We need you! The RJFA relies on active participation from the community to ensure continued success.
